The Ballet Clothing
It's a different story now. Thousands of ballet dancers today are becoming more skilled. Perhaps a major factor that contributes to the development in the dancers' skills is the rise of a number of different ballet techniques. As you may know, more than a hundred dance steps and techniques are taught in ballet these days. Aside from that, children of all ages are encouraged to take up ballet classes for them to share and develop their hidden talents. And, with more and more people showing interest in this art form, hundreds of ballet schools came to emerge, offering programs and trainings that will help develop the skills that the dancers of ballet possess. With the dancers becoming more and more skilled, the standard for ballet clothing also started to change. It's worth noting that today most of the ballet dancers prefer to wear costumes that are shorter than ever before. I'm referring to the ballet skirts required for the ballet dancers today. As what you've seen on television or in pictures, the ballet dancers used to wear shorter skirts, those that are above the knees, in particular. Well, this is particularly the accepted standard for ballet clothing today. For what reason? The ballet dancers of today are more skilled that they prefer to show off their steps and movements to the audience. They prefer such newly established standard for ballet clothing as they do not want their costumes to interfere with their movements. That's basically how confident the contemporary ballet dancers are. But, how does this change in ballet clothing started? I have read an article detailing how that particular change in ballet clothing standard started. According to the source, the fashions in ballet began to change during the early 1700's when the great dancer named Marie Camagro cut her ballet skirt to above her ankles. That notable change in style was affected by the rise of more complicated ballet techniques. The ballet clothing then became shorter and shorter until it is finally accepted that the standard ballet skirt, in particular, ends above the knees. As the length of ballet clothing changed, the style and design also changed. Experts of ballet today often said that the best ballet clothing so far is that which is light and simple. It must show all the lines of the dancer's body and must not interfere with the steps and movements that the dancer is doing. |
